Article: Why Women's Feet Swell

Women tend to find their feet swell long before anybody else.  The question is often asked, why is that?  Let's face it, the woman is on her feet most of the day unless she has a desk job or is a couch potato.  Even then, they swell from lack of movement.

Women are simply predisposed to retain fluids easier then men.  The hormonal cycle in a female trips triggers that men do not experience.  This is a time when fluids gather to also help eliminate uterine waste and body impurities.  Once the cycle resides, the retention seems to also vanish.

So why do older women still retain fluids to the point their feet need to escape a tied shoe?  The aging process is famous for wearing down the cartilage between the joints.  Arthritis is sitting in the background just waiting to attack, and it does with a vengeance all its own sometimes.  Fluids gather and without the ability to exercise as is needed to balance things out a bit, the water sticks around and causes even more pain.

Naturally their are also disease issues such as cardiovascular health issues.  Water retention is common and necessary treatment is advised from a doctor.

When arthritic swelling occurs on a regular basis, it is not recommended to wear tight shoes.  If you are able to tie your shoes, a tie shoe is fine.  If you experience a great deal of pain in your fingers from swelling, a Velcro tabbed shoe is what will really make a difference.

Women's Velcro shoes makes it so much easier to get shoes on and off when you have arthritic fingers and hands.  The Velcro tabs are easy to grab on to and as the day progresses, they can easily be readjusted.  So no matter what the reason a woman swells, wear clothing and shoes that can quickly be re-adjusted for comfort.
